Why Intel Is Still a Better Buy Than AMD

Monday, Mercury Research released its estimates for the second-quarter 2011 processor market share.

Advanced Micro Devices (ticker: AMD) gained roughly 120 basis points of unit share from Intel (INTC) during the second quarter driven by new products, its first sequential share gain since third-quarter 2010 and its largest sequential share gain since first-quarter 2009.

Despite share gains in the second quarter, we are unsure whether AMD can achieve consistent profitability given a slowing PC market and Intel's increasing capacity. Intel remains our top pick due to low valuation and upside to estimates.
