'Awkward' Review: New MTV Comedy is Painfully Funny

The show stars Ashley Rickards (Brooke's troubled foster child from One Tree Hill ) as Jenna, an awkward teen who loses her virginity at summer camp to the boy of her dreams, Matty McKibben. While she's in love, he has no interest in talking to her outside of the janitor's closet, and through a series of unfortunate events, Jenna winds up with a broken arm on her bathroom floor where pills are scattered and a hair dryer is in the bathtub, leading everyone to assume she tried to kill herself. That's right, Awkward is a fake suicide comedy, which is wonderfully quirky. After all, being in high school makes you want to die, just not literally. Awkward then follows a path similar to the movie Easy A as Jenna embraces her new status as "That Girl" and battles the harsh terrain of high school. There's even a painfully out-of-touch guidance counselor to show just how alienating it is to be a teenager. One of the things that distinguishes Awkward , however, is the show's "villain," Sadie. Sure, she's a mean, rich, popular cheerleader, but she's also overweight, and without her family's money, she would easily get teased every bit as much as Jenna. The character is rather one-dimensional to start with, but it's easy to see the potential for how Sadie might break the mold. It's nice to see something other than the perfect, skinny blonde girl as the mean one.

So Misikko sent me a Hana Air Professional hair dryer to try out and review.

I’ll start off by saying that I’m kind of picky about hair dryers.  I’m currently using a Rusk ceramic/ionic hair dryer it’s been my favorite hair dryer.  It dries my hair SUPER fast and my hair is noticeably softer afterwards.  People who have used my hair dryer all notice the same thing and subsequently make the switch from a regular hair dryer to something with higher wattage and is ceramic/ionic.  Husband now insists on packing our hair dryer when we go on trips and doesn’t like to use any other ones.

SO, I get sent this Hana Air dryer and already I’m like, this dryer is going to suck.  SO LOYALTY TO MY DRYER.  I open the box and see that Misikko has sent me all this crazy swag, including a stuffed monkey (WUT) that I gave to Uno and he still plays with daily.  Pretty nice, Misikko.

First impression of the dryer is that it is quite light .  Much lighter than my Rusk dryer, which was probably the only thing I didn’t like about my existing dryer.  My arm is like tired if I use the Rusk one for a long time.

Second thing I notice after I begin to dry my hair is that the air is SUPER strong .  The air coming out of this thing is noticeably stronger than the Rusk dryer.  However, I also notice that it does not get as hot as my Rusk dryer.

I set the dryer down, while still on, to grab my round brush and notice that on the side of the dryer, the little oval button thing is rubber, so the dryer grips on the counter when I set it down and doesn’t move.  NICE!  If you blow dry with a brush, you know you sometimes have to set down the dryer to reposition the brush.  I don’t know about you, but I leave my dryer on when I do this and my dryer always starts sliding due to the moving air and then Husband’s contact lens case and caps (which he always leaves open on the counter) flies into the sink.  So yes, this rubber nubbin is good.

 

Final thoughts – compared to my existing hair dryer, the Hana Air dryer blows airs must stronger and faster, however, the air is not as hot .  The result?
