THE Dux Honour at the Mackenzie Foundation School, Avoch, was shared by Mona Patience and Hugh Macleman.

Mr John Maciver, teller at the Munlochy branch of the Royal Bank has been appointed accountant.

Miss H C Anderson, a former pupil of Avoch Public School and Fortrose Academy, has passed in history and French at Edinburgh University.

In a single-handed Bowling Tournament at Inverness, Mr W H Macfarlane, Dingwall, had the distinction of winning third place out of an entry of 200 players.

The SS Sutors has ceased to run between Cromarty and Invergordon. Post office officials have been making other arrangements for the conveyance of mail between the two burghs.

Mr Murdo Maciver, who was an efficient member of the staff of the Ardgay Branch of the Bank of Scotland, has taken up an appointment in London under the Royal Bank of Canada.

The Black Rock Gorge, Novar, was the rendezvous of Fearn WRI for their first picnic. Hostesses were: Miss M Brewster, Pitkerrie; Miss J Ross, Balintore; Mrs Munro, Fearn and Miss E Watt, Hilton.

Cromarty Tennis Club challenged Tain for possession of the Harmsworth Bowl, but were unsuccessful, although by the smallest margin. Tain won five matches, 10 sets, 94 games to Cromarty's four matches, nine sets and 55 games.

On the occasion of his leaving to become headmaster of Balnain Public School, Mr Murdo Mackenzie, assistant in Avoch Public School for the past two years, was presented with a fishing rod and tackle by pupils and teacher.

Conon and Maryburgh Rifle Club took part in a Wapinshaw competition at Beauly, but were not successful as a team. Individually, however, they did well and brought home seven prizes. The most successful members of the club were A Fraser, J Thompson and A Thompson.
