1. Fayetteville residents are encouraged to Apply for vacancies on city boards and commissions . Members are needed for the city's Zoning Commission and Fayetteville-Cumberland Senior Citizens Advisory Commission. Applications are due Monday. They are available at ci.fayetteville.nc.us/ boards_and_commissions/ or by calling 433-1312. Once complete, they should be emailed to ddaniels@ci.fay.nc.us, faxed to 433-1980 or taken to the city clerk's office on the second floor of City Hall at 433 Hay St.
2. What happens with a person's driver's license after a DWI arrest and conviction is scheduled to be the main topic at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Sandhills group meeting Monday at 6 p.m. A member of the state Division of Motor Vehicles is expected to present the talk. 3. Cumberland County schools is planning a Get Back in School Launch Party on Tuesday from 9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students who have dropped out will be encouraged to re-enroll in school. Recent dropouts will receive information on academic services, support services, community resources and recruiters from colleges, universities and the military. The event will be at the Fuller Performance Learning Center, 314 Jasper St. For more information, call 678-2433.
4. A welcome to Medicare class is scheduled for Aug. 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Cumberland County Coordinating Council On Older Adults. The class targets people who are eligible for Medicare and are preparing for enrollment. Seating is limited and registration is requested by calling 484-0111. The council is at 339 Devers St. Those unable to attend may see the handouts from the meeting at ncshiip.com.
5. Children's Home Society of N.C. has scheduled an Adoption & Foster Care Information Meeting for Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. The meeting will inform attendees of needs of children in the community and the resources it provides to foster and adoptive families. The meeting will be in the Charles Morris Conference room of the Omni Family Resource Center at 351 Wagoner Drive.
