Gregory J. Davis, MD, FCAP , a professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kentucky Hospital and chair of the CAP Forensic Pathology Committee, appeared “live” on the “Nancy Grace” show on CNN at 8:00 pm (ET) on Tuesday, September 11. Dr. Davis spoke in generalities about the forensic evidence found in the Madeleine McCann case in Portugal. The case involves the disappearance of a four-year-old girl from a hotel room, when her parents, who have been named suspects, were allegedly having dinner nearby. Dr. Davis’ interview also aired at 10:00 pm (ET) that same day.

Dr. Davis is a member of the CAP Spokespersons Network, which is made up of more than 200 CAP Fellow and Junior members who have completed an intensive two-and-a-half day media and presentation training program. The program prepares participants to work with television, radio, and print media and to address community groups and medical colleagues using language that helps the public understand the vital role that pathologists play in primary health care.

Below are some of the activities that other members of the Spokespersons Network participated in recently.

Tim G. Peterson, MD, FCAP , participated in a radio interview on blood donations with WPMP-AM in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The interview aired “live” on September 10 and was re-played during the 4:00 – 5:00 pm drive hour that same day. In addition, the station has asked Dr. Peterson to participate in a regular, 30-minute spot to discuss issues surrounding blood donation. Dr. Peterson also took part in a “live” television interview with WVUE-TV (NBC) in New Orleans on September 11 to promote the station’s blood drive. His interview aired three times that same day. The blood drive was the station’s most successful since 2001.

Gary W. Procop, MD, FCAP , submitted a letter to the editor on breast cancer and MyBiopsy.org to the Miami Herald for possibly publication during October National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In addition, Dr. Procop gave a presentation entitled, “Molecular Microbiology: Bench Applications Finally Reach the Bedside,” on September 14 at a Continuing Medical Education meeting at his almamater Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.
