Herbaceous Boutonnieres and Citrus Centerpieces

Last weekend I traveled to Boulder, Colorado for a good friend’s wedding, and because I am a florist, I volunteered to do the flowers. I will be designing my own wedding arrangements, so this experience gave me new ideas for imaginative bouquets and forced me to see how important it is to manage my time wisely while being a bride. My only parameter was to use pink, orange, and yellow flowers, so I let my creativity loose and set out to make her wedding a beautiful memory.

Boutonnieres:

I used rosemary in the boutonnieres for a different texture and a nice aroma, and then mixed the herbs with hypericum berries, craspedia (commonly known as Billy balls), and for a pop of color in the groom’s boutonniere, I added a few orange spray roses. The groom's boutonniere's stem was wrapped with ivory lace ribbon, while the other stems were wrapped in twine.

Bridal Bouquet:

For the bridal bouquet, I started with a base of two ivory hydrangeas, which gives the bouquet a nice round shape and can help eliminate any holes. Next, I added three white dahlias, followed by the green hypericum berries, yellow Billy balls, and orange ranunculus. This combination of flowers made for a casual, wildflower arrangement that fit the wedding’s rustic yet colorful theme. After all of the flowers were in place, I framed the bouquet with seeded eucalyptus and lemon leaf and then wrapped the stems with an ivory satin.

Citrus Centerpiece Supplies:

One 10-inch mason jar

In this centerpiece, I stacked the lemons inside of the jar with a thick wire running through the middle of the fruit to keep them from sliding around. Then, I cut a one-inch hole in the top lemon to form a small opening to poke the branches and flowers into. When combining fresh flowers with lemons, add the blooms and the water at the last minute so the juice does not cloud the water or wilt the flowers.
